Montasio is a cow’s milk cheese from Fruili Venezia Giula and the eastern Veneto. This firm cheese, first made in a 17th century mountain monastery, is fairly mild in flavor and can be used in many dishes such as mac n cheese and for sandwiches. Montasio is famous as a main ingredient in frico, a classic mountain dish of melted cheese and potatoes and eaten as a brunch dish or an appetizer.
